West Briton
A pupil from Roseland Community College has won a prize for his film about a day in the life of West Briton deputy sports editor Rhod Mitchell.
Tom Howe, who previously did work experience at the newspaper, came back to make the film which he entered in a competition run by Wainui SW, from Perranporth. The company creates educational products to help pupils learn skills specific to certain industries, especially in sectors where there are skills shortages.
Co-founder Peter Howarth-Jarratt said: "Tom really surprised the judges, not only with his technical and creative ability in the production process, but also with the passion for the career which proves invaluable to others looking to go into journalism."
Rhod said: "I was flattered to be chosen as the subject of Tom's video. He was very professional and really captured what working as a sports reporter is like."
Since winning the competition Tom's mind is made up. He said: "After editing the footage and finding out more about journalism, it's definitely the career for me."
